What is now

The US Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has now awarded leases to five offshore wind developers for sites off the California coast at Humboldt Bay and Morro Bay. https://www.boem.gov/renewable-energy/state-activities/california

Now, the hard work begins. All five developers winning leases must still win approval for their plans and they will face numerous economic, technical, industrial, legal and political challenges as they proceed. This is happening now and if floating offshore wind is what is next for renewable energy, every challenge is urgent.
